Whole Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Whole

no, I don't, it baffles my mind
no, I won't, think it'll ever be fine
who said this world was yours
and why was I simply left out?

Why do they say we're created as equals
when the playing field is not even?
A field which doesn't accept us beyond appearances
A field which undermines our strengths as weaknesses
How then, are we, if we're seeking individual justice?

A hurt no compliment can mend
A hurt no lawyer can defend
A hurt no one sees or care as much to listen
yet, A smile is worn on our faces,
A smile that can not forgive
or forget your disgraces.

Say, If I ought to have an opinion, I am condemned.
How come you don't live without no similar vices?
Yes, Society demands so much of us
An image that's been molded to be seen
as perfect

Well coordinated clothes, perfectly shaped figure
and the mood to match
Does such a person really exist?
Why should a rose be made to look
pretty only in a flower vase?

If there's nothing else to be desired
It is asked because it is required
to show some respect
Since you choose to neglect

What it means to be
and you know we can offer so much more
You refuse your needs
and because of it, you are split in half

If you can't be whole,
you can't understand our general purpose
the blind can't lead an army without support
when the conscious decision was made to abort
