Why? Poem by Richard Ikolo

Why?

Why are men and women given to adultery?
Why do people spend their lifetime in idolatry?
Why do you take pleasure in bribery?
Why do you delight in flattery?
Why the arrogant display of effrontery?
Why go into the business of harlotry?
Why are the youth into robbery?
Why get involved in burglary?
Why go into the ministry of palmistry?
Why not do away with trickery?
Why engage in skulduggery?
Why are Africans associated with savagery?
Why are able-bodied men encouraged into thuggery?
Why are churches in unhealthy rivalry?
Why are people fond of treachery?
Why can't people understand that sin brings slavery?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Selfishness, quest for power and fame drive people into committing all forms of atrocity. The bitter truth is that no reason or excuse is tenable before the Great Judge of the earth. The courts of this world may justify you, but not The Impartial God.The way out is genuine repentance and restitution.
