Why Are We The Last To Know We Are Free? Poem by Yatasha TylerHolt

Why Are We The Last To Know We Are Free?

Rating: 5.0

Slavery…
Are we really free?
It's only a different form
Than from history.

Are we emaciated?
Or proclamated?
Or are we still isolated
And segregated?

WHY ARE WE THE LAST TO KNOW WE ARE FREE?

We have been taught
To think small
Even professionally
With a ball.

We dream of being the
Most Valuable Player,
But we won't dream of being
Most Valuable Team Entrepreneur!

WHY ARE WE THE LAST TO KNOW WE ARE FREE?

Our new normal
Is about acting buck wild,
Keeping a deaf ear to,
"It takes a village to raise a child"

We must return to unity
And be willing to accept
The real meaning
Of community!

We need to learn to embrace
Our black power
And eradicate
The black prowler!

If we took the energy
To know or real history
Of you and me,
We can then understand
the victory
Of our liberty!

WHY ARE WE THE LAST TO KNOW WE ARE FREE?

Is it due to our tenacity
Or the originating of our
Humanity, that is so
Dynamically…..
Created?

Or could it be
We are the pressured treasure
from above and beyond measure
Being made in an image
Oh so clever? !

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME…
WHY ARE WE THE LAST TO KNOW WE ARE FREE?

Witty utterances set aside for sober reflection. An insightful piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely brought forth with clarity of thought and mind. Thanks for sharing Yatasha and do remain enriched.
