Why Dad? Poem by Brooke Luchich

Why Dad?

Rating: 5.0

You want to leave and I’m not quite sure how I’m meant to feel,
I still don’t know how to deal with it, it doesn’t seem real.
Don’t you want to stay with your children and grandkids too?
Aren’t we important anymore, don’t we mean anything to you?
I’m not sure if I should be happy for you or if I should be mad,
How are kids meant to act when they’re about to lose their dad?
I know we’re not all that close anymore, that bit I do understand,
But that shouldn’t make us less important than that girl in Thailand.
Are you going to leave before you fix things with your only son?
I have so many more questions to ask, it’s not just that one.
What about Haylee and Wade, don’t they make you want to stay?
Colby turns 18 next year, are you really going to miss that day?
If something bad happens then how would you even know?
Is there nothing here at all that makes you not want to go?
If I get married, when they ask who gives this bride away, who’ll say me?
Or what about when I have kids, where’s their pop going to be?
There’s so many more things that I want to say and ask you,
But I know I can’t change your mind if this is what you want to do.
