Why Do We Admire Poem by Francis Duggan

Why Do We Admire

Why do we admire very wealthy people we look up to the billionaire
When millions are starving of hunger in the bigger World out there
Yet we do look up to the greedy though we are told that greed is a sin
We lack in compassion for the have nots and in so doing lose our God within.

With those who believe all people are equal I for one do surely agree
Those who feel superior to others their souls are in dire poverty
You show some a beautiful garden but weeds in abundance they see
The things that I do unto others are the things that I do unto me.

How can we know of a World of peace and abundance when we have been hijacked by fear
Of death, destruction and war on terror is all we are obliged to hear
From those who maintain the status quo abundance for some it would seem
Our dream of an Earthly Utopia are only that only a dream.

Why do we admire very wealthy people and the poor of the World ignore
For poverty, suffering and homelessness we need not go beyond our home shore
Though I fear him I do admire the reaper since he will make us all equal one day
The billionaire must die like the pauper and in the bosom of Mother Earth lay.
