Why Do We Love? Poem by Marissa McFay

Why Do We Love?

Rating: 5.0

Love is dangerous.
It's been said before by countless wise men.
Yet it holds no significance until that hour.
The hour in which you come to a certain realization-
You care for some so much
that you would rather be hurt by them
time and time again,
then risk living without them.

Love is foolish.
It's as if we're going into the cold without a coat,
bare and open with no protection.
Nothing to block the wind from sending
needles to pierce your skin

Why do we love?
It can be described as nothing but insanity.
To trust in someone so much,
to confide in someone so much,
to feel a sense of belonging to someone,
it all seems ludicrous.

But necessary.

Why do we love?

Why do we breathe?

Great poem. It expresses something everyone thinks and feels at one time or another when they love someone.

I very much enjoyed this peace, you captured my attention by saying 'You care for some so much that you would rather be hurt by them time and time again, then risk living without them.' I find this statement very true and never look at it in that context. Good job on the poem.

Beautiful poem! Love is so beautiful, it hurts, it resurrects, it's an enigma, and yet, it's part of our humanity. We can't live without it.
