Why Does That Have To Be Our Nature? Poem by Paul Day

Why Does That Have To Be Our Nature?

Why don’t we all get along?
It’s not a whine
Or a complaint.
It’s a valid question.
In a race so capable of unity and cooperation,
Why do we continue to succumb
To pride, anger, hate, and fear of the unknown?
Why do we continue to fight?
Why, brothers and sisters, do we harm?
Why don’t we all get along?
Are we capable of fixing this?
We don’t try. Not as one people.
We won’t try. Not as one people.
Why does that have to be our nature?
We’re handling our relations all wrong.
