Why (I Still Ask) Poem by Brendon Olsen

Why (I Still Ask)

As I look out towards the horizon
I lose focus
My mind strays from the waves lapping upon the rocks
I don't know how long I stood there but it could have been forever It could have been never
Only one thing ever mattered
Fingers crawling waves chattered
Against the vastness of the ocean the sky seemed to collapse in on itself as if asking me
Where I should go
The waves laughing at me with cruel intention mocking as if I should know
There are these ways that the mind tricks you into believing something is true
There are times when I believe that the mind was created just for you
Without this space to think and breathe I find no need to seek belief
Within my heart I feel the loss
My brain confused asks at the cause
Focus returns to the horizon
The blues separate into
Earth and sky The world returns to its physical form
But inside I still ask why
