..............................................................
I wonder why Dad seems so grumbly today?
He's been ever so grouchy and sore.
His temper is short, and his nerves are on edge.
And we haven't a clue what it's for.
This morning his shoes were all soggy with rain,
So we put them into the oven to dry.
But all that he did was to bark and complain,
And we just do not understand why.
We washed up his car some, with dish soap and bleach.
We scrubbed out every odd little stain within reach.
And those stains that were trouble, the ones that spelled doom?
We scrubbled the troublesome ones with a broom.
And it shimmered and shined and looked right like it should.
Flawless and perfect. And pretty darn good.
We then left each door open, so it would smell fresh as day.
But the rain kind of stole some of that shine away.
We painted Dad's brand new fishing pole pink,
And we were certain it worked a lot better, I think.
So we dismantled his reel and we greased all the gears,
In ways that oughta last for at least twenty years!
But its do-dads and what's its don't fit anymore.
And we lost a few screws somewhere down on the floor.
And we're a little unsure how it goes back together.
But Dad, he won't mind til at least fishing weather.
We swept out the fireplace with the new sweeping broom.
But the dust and the soot kind of covered the room.
Every wall, all the windows, and even his chair.
But Dad did not seem to notice a trace of soot there,
Because we found the Windex and scrubbed everything clean,
From the walls, to the windows, to each TV Screen.
And they're looking brand new. They're not dusty at all.
Dad even teared up some the moment he saw.
But we haven't a clue why Dad seems so mad.
He's so grumbly and mumbly, and not a bit glad.
Just think how happy Dad's going to feel
When he sees how we shined up his barbecue grill!
