Why We Bleed Poem by Ibn Ali

Why We Bleed

You're afraid of loss
You're afraid of what was never us
Or that it might never be
You and me
Dedeh told me I like complicated souls
I told him
There's no such thing as a simple being
This is where we seep
This is why we bleed
So others see us and know that we're in need
I've seen the blood run hot and soak your clothes
We don hides to hide our skin
And our skin to hide the ugliness beneath
Tears are savoury to taste
This is culinary pain
That knot that's in your throat
That flutter in your stomach
That feel that fills your gut
These layers
Raw
To cut through seduces tears
Don't cry
The blood I saw sufficed
Don't think because I'm silent
I don't care
