Windows Poem by Thomas Thompson

Windows

Windows

The view outside my window
Peaceful calm and green
Sunlight bright and warm
Cool shade welcoming
Goldfinches brightly flashing by
The sounds of nature laughing

An oasis in a sea of turmoil

Refuge from the world surrounding me

Harsh noise Garish light
Grating irritating burning

Unnatural man-made straight lines everywhere

Serenity not possible
In the world around my tiny window of soothing green

Windows surround me
Within me
Around me

No matter when or where
Night or day
They are everywhere
Escape not possible

I cannot make them go away
Vanish
Disappear

The view within
Often the harshest of all

Even when I close my eyes within my peaceful glen

The perception of Calm illusive
What I see often unexpected
Nor understood

Hustle and bustle the norm
Meetings schedules so much to do

Must be on time cannot be late

Pressure intensifies exponentially

Impacts what was

What is

What will be

If not released the world around us as

I

We

Know it

Will end

Whom controls who or what

Often the question

No easy answer

Drives me crazy inside
Even when in my cozy den
And I cannot cope as

Each day goes by
Filled with hurry
Fury
Indignation

The window looking in
Often inaccessible

The grey shadowy light preventing those around

Simply trying to understand

Who I am

Where am I

Within my verdant den

Tommy
