Winter Night Poem by Casey Gochnour

Winter Night

Step by step, we move across ground,
Moving over snow with softly crunching sound.
Brisk air all around, just lend me your hand,
I’ll keep you warm as we explore this land.

The moon rises high and falls as day begins,
Our hearts full of love but bodies full of sins.
So many imperfections and we see it so clear,
But even if it’s apparent we know there’s none to fear.

For all your wrongs, I love you.
And for all your rights, I love you.
For everything that you are, I love you.
For everything you will be, I love you.

As I step hand-in-hand on this earth,
There have been emotions we came to unearth.
Things we never thought we’d have felt,
As life’s hell for us was dealt.

It’s a cold, dark night, I can see it now.
But see, I’m bound by this undying vow.
My love for you can only grow,
I just want to let you know.

I’ll hold you tight through the winds and the snow,
Whether the pain is fast or the suffering is slow.
I’d rather suffer with the woman I love,
Than suffer alone.

The air chills us as it passes, freezing hands in place,
We hear it coming and begin to brace.
Oh, but it cannot freeze the heat between our hands,
They’re stuck together like feet in wet sands.

Your skin feels cold against me, come closer please,
Let me try to keep your mind at ease.
I know it’s not easy, but we’ve come so close,
Since you realized my love from your nose to your toes.

There’s nothing more I could ask of you, but I urge you to push on,
Life always gets warmer the moment before dawn.
As the sun rises and gives us light,
We live on and walk forever in twilight.
