Wish It Could Be You Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

Wish It Could Be You

Something about this time of year
when people want to be loved
and I wish that you were here

I didn't think I would feel this way again
knowing where this road always ends
I tried hard not to ask you to stay
cause I never wanted to see you go away

It was a dream not some master plan
I was never destined to be your loving man
If anyone could make my dreams come true
Lord knows there was no one else but you

It's been a hard road I cannot lie
I've been real lonely most of the time
but that's the cost - when all has been lost

I have been paying for my younger days
and reaping the rewards of my wilder ways
Who wants to know - You better just go

How do you tell someone of all your mistakes
and who you were in your wilder days
and who would care I better not dare

How do you tell them where you have been
or all things rolling around in your head
I don't know - but I wish I did

Just how do you say I have had two wives
both bad choices but ones that I cant hide
They've gone their way and they're gone to stay

I got three kids that I barely see
no one would ever let them live with me
but I love them so - how would they know

How do you say I am not him anymore
You might as well just head for that door
cause its too late things don't change

I fell in love with that blue-eyed girl
She was the only one that ever ruled my world
I wish she knew - but there's nothing I can do

I get over her once in a while
It will take some time again before I ever smile
But I will be brave

Just how do you ever love again
after knowing how the story really ends
I don't know - But there's always tomorrow
