Wishes Poem by Nick Downer

Wishes

I wish I could feel you,
sleep with you, marry you,
be happy with you
but you don't exist.
I wish I could draw you
on a wonderfully blank sheet of paper,
from scratch,
and have you jump into existence.
I wish we could spend summers in spain
and winters in each others arms.
I wish I could whisper
wonderful qualities into the darkness
and have them find someone
to make them what I want.
I wish I could be a great mum,
the kind that makes cookies
and goes to the park
and is there when the kids go to school
and come home.
I wish we could camp in a tent
under the stars up north,
sharing a sleeping bag.
Goddamn you...
why can't you exist?
