Wishing Poem by Juan Olivarez

Wishing

I wish I had wings,
So I could fly.
Like my avian friends,
Up in the sky.

I wish I had gills,
To breath in the sea.
Swimming for thrills,
The fishes and me.

I wish I could run,
Like cheetahs on the veldt.
In the blazing sun,
With a rippling pelt.

I wish, yes I do,
For so many things.
But I'm glad just like you,
For what each new day brings.
