My converse sneakers with the neon laces,
Running through a street full of strange faces
Clouds in the sky threaten to rain on this parade
Making our makeup run, ruining your charade
The streaks in my hair untuck and I brush them aside
And the colour fades out of the strands that were once dyed
You've said so many times how I don't need it
I don't need the makeup or dye one single bit
But I look in the mirror and that's what I see
This beautiful girl who's definitely not me
But I'm scared so I hide behind her for protection
But all I end up getting is more interrogation
From the girl who lies on the pavement next to you
Watching the rolling clouds float through the blue
I relate to the bricks that make up these buildings
They are beautiful and rustic. They have seen many things
They are sturdy and strong and support a bigger cause
But they always have something to cover their flaws
Whether it's a mural, or just spray paint and graffiti
Which is just like the makeup that covers me
We lean against these bricks which hold up this building, which makes a city
Which is someone's home, paradise, haven, serenity
Your fingers laced through mine, with my nails painted black
But when I try to pull away you pull me back
You know that I will have to leave eventually
And I guess you'll just have to mean to live without me
