Woman In A Cage Poem by Phoenix1 Smith

Woman In A Cage

Rating: 4.5

Quietly I see watchful eyes glaring at me
it is not escaping me their mindful curiosity
is it just in my mind that they all want to see
obtuse, gullible moves I am about to make
rigorous censure they give for my mistakes

I'm chained to a cage, forever confined
my hands outstretch to reach for freedom
a dream I wish to feel pleasure and to find
ailing body weeping in unending boredom
consciousness decides courage is seldom

soul cannot rest in this beleaguered state
will convene masterful strength to escape
heart in audacity will birth seed of alacrity
see the force within the core that's caved
to break the chain, to savor life that is free

I'll be a bird that soars into the blue skies
wings strengthened by misery, I will rise!
hover, fly, glide to the unending heavens
feeling the winds rushing in my frail being
veins pounding like a bird my heart sings

life is infinitely engorged with weakness
let not fear and feed the illusion it brings
I'll get out of this cage, break the harness
building up power, victory I will be aiming
I'll control the mind, embrace wholeness

You glaring eyes just watch me take flight
all you hoping I'll go silently into the night
I'll beg your forgiveness I won't take heed
with courage and strength to see the light
I'm a woman, I will fight with all my might!
