'Women Were Not Created For Swollen Lips & Black Eyes' (Violence Against Females 15 Year-Old Josie Lou Ratley) Poem by Luke Easter

Women were not created for swollen lips & black eyes,
Neither was their purpose to be lower class or despised,
She’s supposedly man’s companion not his punching bag,
Girls are treated by boys the way mom is treated by dad.

Fathers or “lovers” are not supposed to slap or punch mother in the face,
Mom should not need sunglasses in public hanging her head in disgrace,
Boyfriend-girlfriend, employer-employee, brother-sister whatever the case,
Call it what you want but don’t call is love because this is nothing but hate.

Our God never intended for wives to live in fear inside their own home,
Tormented by mental & physical abuse, Battered Woman’s Syndrome,
It is seen and heard so much today as acceptable many think it’s true,
A lot is never reported wrongly believing there is nothing they can do.

Domestic Violence is a sickening crime now cresting a high tide,
Once hidden in backwoods and basements it's now high & wide,
God never intended for women to be sexually abused and beat,
Forced to cheaply sell their bodies on the corner of any street.

A man can severely beat his spouse, be arrested, make bail,
Run over a duck & ducklings in some areas,6 months in jail,
Gets her teeth knocked out, black eye, face looks like crap,
People want to know what she did to make him act like that.

Even in the military where females should be more than safe,
Less likely to be wounded than she is to be violated from hate,
Not, by the enemy who threatens death to muffle her cries,
But by soldiers wearing the same uniform, on the same side.

In a court of law a man punched his girlfriend, held her neck,
And the judge jumped over the bench, attempting to protect,
While cameras were rolling as all this can be easily viewed,
You can watch it over and over with access from You-Tube.

Many look like they have been in a championship fight,
Quickly running to friends or relatives to spend the night,
Only to be beaten even worse upon returning the next day,
Now she’s more fearful than ever to try again and run away.

Then there are those guys, who severely beat on the kids,
They're scared to death to say the boyfriend or daddy did,
Knowing full well as soon as they are released and let out,
It will be so much more than a fist shoved in their mouth.

It’s not even about money since both the rich and the poor,
Are prone to smash a woman’s face through a window, a door,
Woe be to that female if the door is metal instead of wood,
Sorry to have to say it but some men are just no damn good.

Battered Woman’s Syndrome deals with repeated violence it is not a guess,
The Tension Building Phase, Explosion/Battery, Honeymoon Phase for BWS,
Oh my God, it is so sickening to hear battered women sadly singing this song,
“Well, um, my honey wouldn’t have beat me up had I not been in the wrong.”

Here is an incident that happened & it’s just the worst disgrace,
A daughter was beaten so badly mom didn’t recognize her face,
Ok, last the time mom saw precious her teeth were pearlie white,
The front eight were knocked in this one-sided domestic fist fight.

Yet less than a week later would you believe this woman went back to him too?
It’s by no means the second, third or fourth time he’s beaten her black and blue,
Naturally concerned for the children’s safety the next day grandma stopped by,
Not the girlfriend again but her six year old grandson had a bruise over his eye.

Ok, exactly where are all of these tough guys who should be sent to Iraq?
Send them overseas to see how bad they are with those who fight back,
Yes! Put them in a uniform as we need on the front line hero’s like these,
If captured I wonder how many would fall down crying & begging please?

A Seattle Metro Bus Driver early in the morning did not open the back door,
Company policy so a 14 year-old punk, fist-to-face, unconscious on the floor,
This rule was for operator’s safety said the driver 56 and a grandmother of 5,
What makes a teenager think he can punch anyone leaving them barely alive?

Food for thought; movies, television and music in my mind are the main three,
It is a fact that too many people love to impersonate what they hear and see,
However, the biggest problem is, most of what’s played and shown is wrong,
And in my mind that’s the main reason this problem has lasted so very long.

03/11/2010 A woman in a bar/night club was asked to dance & she declined,
The man followed her to the ladies room then proceeded to whip her behind,
Beat down so brutal she was later found bleeding & unconscious on the floor,
But a video cam shows the suspect buying bandages in a 24-hour drug store.

Well, New York City is an extremely big place, tell me where did this happen?
A three-story bar & lounge called Social on Eighth Ave in midtown Manhattan,
However, thanks to several well placed security cameras justice might prevail,
A broken eye socket, busted jaw with other injuries the suspect now sits in jail.

And I only say might because it has happened so many, many times in the past,
Even with over whelming evidence the punishment to fit the crime does not last,
What starts out as justice is whittled down by plea-bargaining or 1st time offense,
While the victim(s) are scared for life and this absolutely makes no kind of sense.

Imagine that he punch her so hard, so viciously on his hand he had a bruise,
Yet, how many incidents like this happen without making the headline news?
And because he felt so confident to do it what question comes to your mind?
Exactly, now you have to wonder if this animalistic behavior was his 1st time.

What are the odds that you don’t have to know your assailant or be at home?
To become a severely battered victim of an attack yet without the syndrome?
Violence and abuse is just as common as peanut butter & jelly, yeah PB & J,
And with the acceptance in today’s society, neither one is about to go away.

03/17/10, a boy 15 beats girl 15, smashing her face to the ground,
Then he kicks her in the face and stomps her head as she’s down,
Wearing steel toe boots kicking again & again while to trying kill,
Still punishing this defenseless young women as she is lying still.

The second most alarming thing is there had to be other students around,
Just after 3 P.M. at the bus stop didn’t she scream, holler, make a sound?
Surely there was someone, a group to jump on this boy & make him stop?
His text said he was going to kill her, no remorse when cuffed by the cops.

Josie Lou Ratley was viciously attacked by Wayne Treacy is fact
So once again, where in the world do kids learn this kind of crap?
It happened in Deerfield Beach Florida where just 5-months prior,
Kids poured rubbing alcohol on Michael Brewer & set him on fire.

Although that incident involved not a female but a 15 year-old boy,
It’s the same devastation, destruction, treated like a second hand toy,
Battered and beaten is still battered and beaten no matter what gender,
As they continue to batter & beat long after you’re unable to surrender.

I’ve been told by many that poems like this one are way too cynical,
Well, tell that to the girl’s mother, as her child’s condition is critical,
Or, speak to parents of the boy, who was severely burned by others,
Then again, how would feel if it happened to your sister or brother?

I’m not talking about soldiers fighting a war in a life & death battle,
Teenage “students” exactly like those attackers in the city of Seattle,
Movies, television, music, video games where violence is the norm,
Main buzz around theaters these days? No real butter in the popcorn.
