Wonder Poem by Maureen Adair

Wonder

Rating: 3.8

eyes shut tight, hands clenched in anticipation,
the little girl to wish her hearts desire is in preparation.

you see her small lips whispering pleading,
the wind carries her desires, knowing that her heart is needing.

her long, brown hair gently swishes and teases her face,
but she pays no heed, all the while in the fairy tale's embrace.

the mighty sea crashing against the cliffs steadfast being,
the sun shining in splendor, but her eyes shut tight, the girl isn't seeing.

That all around her is where the magic exists,
not in far off realms that to reach she always persists.

the play of vibrant colors on the sea at sun set or rise,
is more beautiful than the patterns on a fairies wings as it flies.

the infinite breath of the captivating sky,
is more wondrous than a boundary enclosed, limited realm. Aye?

The little girl opens her big green eyes and looks about,
worries gone, pleading done, and no longer in doubt.

She looks up to the sky and smiles,
'Papa God your the only one who will help me with these trials.'

She understood that the splendor created,
was for her, and she knew that all would be well, she sat down at peace and elated.
