Words Poem by Joe Filipiak

Words

Sticks and stones may break some bones,
but unkind words hurt much more;
cause deep, invisible, emotional wounds,
that hurt some people to the core.

Wounds that take so long to heal,
wounds that can't be seen,
wounds that are so very real,
there's scars where wounds have been.

Words blurted out without a thought,
not really meaning to hurt;
senseless, upsetting, harmful words,
that some unwittingly spurt.

Words that are planned to cause much pain,
spewed out because of hate,
words that can't be taken back,
once said, it's much too late.

Before you speak think to yourself,
will what I say offend?
If yes, then keep it to yourself,
shake hands and just be friends.
