Workers Day Poem by Jabulani Mzinyathi

Workers Day

drenched to the marrow
the acid rain of abject poverty
the napalm bombs of hunger
vibrations of despondency everywhere
the quicksand of mass unemployment
the deafening silence of factory sirens
the debilitating emasculation gripping
in the stranglehold of uncertainities
the shrinking and uncertain pay packets
in illicit brews drowning sorrows
trapped in the hyacinth of escapism
