Working From Home Poem by Kevin Rymell

Working From Home

It's 7.30am I need to get up can't be late
No time to brush my hair I'm in a bit of a state
I need to wake up and get in the zone
Hang on I forgot I'm working from home

Ah yes I remember we've been here since lockdown
I never get dressed just sit here in my nightgown
Log on to the computer and stare at the screen
Every day seems the same if you know what I mean

I'm sitting and sitting and putting on weight
But there's no commute that's got to be great
No traffic, no stress I'll make it on time
I'm taking it easy - don't blame me, it isn't a crime

I'm eating too much food where is it going
My pants are expanding I seem to be growing
I'm blowing up like a balloon I'm stuck in my seat
What is happening I've lost sight of my feet!

Calm down, relax it will all be over soon
And then we will all be over the moon
Free to go jogging and be out and about
Not worried about which rules I'm about to flout

Ah yes freedom, never being taken to task
For walking the streets without wearing a mask
Breathing in air, and feeling the breeze
No fear you'll kill the neighbours the next time that you sneeze

What's this? A video call during my lunch?
Fine and dandy thanks a whole bunch!
I promise you this I'm not going on cam
All my colleagues know who I am

Ah, the joys of working from home, I digress
Yes, stuck here at the same old address
Doing my job and keeping me safe
But my clothes have all shrunk, and are beginning to chafe….

What's this time to log off, time has flown by
Never got dressed I tell you no lie
Ate too much I couldn't refrain
But hey, let's go to bed, wake up and do it all again!
