Can't Sleep Poem by Kevin Rymell

Can't Sleep

Rating: 5.0

I'm lying in bed and staring at the ceiling
My body is on fire it's not a nice feeling
I'm gasping for air and covered in sweat
What is the time, I'm sorry I forget!

The windows are open but where is the breeze?
Am I slowly dying from some foreign disease
No sadly that is not the case
Just the summer heat invading my space

I'm tossing and turning, why can't I sleep
I've given up counting hundreds of sheep
There are flocks of them running around in my head
Go aways Lambs get out of my bed!

Frustration, frustration will it never end
This heat is sending me right round the bend
This is a battle I'll win, I will give it no quarter
Damn it, I have to get up and go drink some water

Ah, feels better that quenched my endless thirst
But my head is exploding I thinks its about to burst
I'm looking for ice to put on my face
There's none in the fridge its all disappeared without leaving a trace

I'm angry and tired and continue to moan
So, sit in the corner and play on my phone
The weather forecast reminds me of this summer's high's
Of endless Sun and clear blue skies

Back on the bed, there's no place else to go
Will I fall asleep if I dream it's about to snow?
My body feels heavy my legs are made of lead
This fever is burning, the fire's well fed

My eyes are now closing, I'm drifting away
Finally, some rest at the end of the day
My alarm goes off there must be some mistake
Damn it, it's 8: 30 and time to awake!

Such a great poem and I absolutely love it. The ability to express words in such a magnificent way is more than a gift. Nicely done!
