Would You Stay If I Had Nothing To Offer? Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Would You Stay If I Had Nothing To Offer?

Alignment of circumstances
"Now we are only arguing about the price"
Deep cleaning rub, feels like acid when applied to the skin

Loyalty comes with no material reward
Would you stay if I had nothing to offer?
You fake having a good time better than most

For a roof over a pretty head, she spins fables of devotion
Shatters records for speed for folding and putting away a jacket
Chief cook and bottle washer in a personal enterprise

Would you stay if I had nothing to offer?
Content only with time spent - Days off from work, modest trips to nearby towns, afternoon couch cuddling in front of dimwitted TV

Paranoid assessments of another's feelings
In front of a money backdrop,
The broken egg society holds court with bits of shell messing with your love
