Wrecked Too Long To Be Saved

Rating: 5.0

Babe, you been good to me
Putting up far too long
With my exit strategy
I been trying to put it to rest
But the past keeps working on me.
Feel like I'm swinging
From the same rope
That keeps drowning us
In the river of hope
The simple fact is
I've been wrecked too long
To be saved.

I've been wrecked too long
By him
And you been wrecked too long
By her
The blows from the past
They keep hurting us both
Everyday.
I keep trying to put it away
But it comes back
In the same old way
Think I've come to realize
That I've been wrecked too long
To be saved.

Watching you be strong
She calls and you break down
If I didn't get it
I'd be lashing out
With the tongue
That once did that.
But For every tear
I used to cry
It's broken me down
And I can't explain why
Still, I am so blessed
To have you
By my side.
I'll never forget that.
Just that it seems
I've been
Wrecked too long
To be saved.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

An insightful depiction of a relationship that is adversely affected by heartbreaks from previous relationships, well articulated and nicely penned in good diction with conviction. Beautiful poem elegantly brought forth from inner recesses of the heart. Though your hearts may be to the others, life doesn't last forever, so give love another chance. Thanks for sharing Chris.
