After Chaucer,
if I ever read 'ywis' on a wall
in the font I call Medieval-Modern,
I'll know it means 'you know'.

I won't know how to say it right -
ywiss, ywice,
ywiz, ywise or yweace.

But 'y as y-, i-, etc,
was prefixed to verbs indiscriminately',
in my homm* yread I.

'ydo' is 'it's done', 'it's over'.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
After The Canon's Yeoman's Prologue.
* see my poem 'Multi Murderer'.
quote is from my Chambers homm. I've expanded 'past participles' to 'verbs' in general, maybe just in the past.
