Years Poem by Cherry Kell

Years

Rating: 4.0

We met by chance
on a summer day
We fell in love
to everyones dismay.

Some people would say
' how could this be'
others would say
' It won't last, you'll see'.

But as the years went by
we were always together
though the good and the bad,
no matter the weather.

In all those years I set my goal
I tried to mend your trouble soul.
I sailed through darkness
and i sailed through pain
for our love
I fought in vain.

But in the end
I felt worn out
and of that love
I started to doubt.

It wasn't equal
and now i know
but i was too blind
to just let go.

Alone you left me
with only tears
a bottle of wine
and all my fears.

I picked myself up
but it took so long,
Distraught I was
no longer strong.

But weakness subsided as months went by
no longer your shadow
Reborn was I.

no longer your shadow Reborn was I. Poetry really starts to work when you can touch a universal experience....We have all been in that place you write about and can appreciate the multitude of emotions that these words unearth. Good job.

A nice heartfelt poem Cherry. And I'm glad you won out in the end.

I read and sat mesmerized. So sonorous! Rhyme and the theme both are awesome.
