Yellow Carnations Poem by Greg Uhan

Yellow Carnations

I've had all I can take
of these yellow carnations

I much prefer to keep
the cheery company
of the sunny eyed agrimonia

Send me sweet scented celandine

I have no time to waste
under the creeping willow

I've had my fill of daffodils

spent too much time

contemplating and wallowing
in the shade of the cypress

I make offerings of rosemary
to past sages

scattering red poppies
along the side of the road

reach out to touch the oak leave
with tender thoughtful hand

making sure to keep gardenias
in my pocket
in case of a rainy day

I go out wandering

to find my calling
and make my peace

out among the purple heather
