Yorkshire Cricket Terzanelle Poem by C Richard Miles

Yorkshire Cricket Terzanelle

I like to spend some time each summer watching Yorkshire cricket
And bask in sparkling sunshine as it shimmers on the grass.
While bustling batsmen strike the ball and run along the wicket,
The cheering home spectators shout and raise a cheering glass.
As spinners bowl the ball, they have a break from their work’s toil
And bask in sparkling sunshine as it shimmers on the grass.
The seamers work their magic as from the uphill Kirkstall
End, the wickets fall and then the next man’s in to bat.
As spinners bowl the ball, they have a break from their work’s toil.
And as the googly rises from the pitch that seems so flat
The batsmen are bamboozled and deceived and meet their
End; the wickets fall and then the next man’s in to bat.
It’s fun when there’s a run-out and they’re not sure where they’re
Going as the match begins to reach a tense conclusion.
The batsmen are bamboozled and deceived and meet there
In the middle, mortified in utter dumb confusion.
It’s so worthwhile to watch and it’s worth the season ticket
Going. As the match begins to reach a tense conclusion,
I like to spend some time each summer watching Yorkshire cricket.
