You Ask Poem by Isaac Helms

You Ask

You ask why did I change
Become someone so strange
Why did I become this way
I have no idea what to say

Tried to help me quit pot
Even though I did it a lot
Became someone you couldn’t love
Seeing the stars fall from above

I said I would protect you
Never thought it would be from me
Yet I still love the same
But I would only hurt you again

I already broke your heart
Tore what we had apart
Sorry but I cannot stay
Wish it didn’t end this way

I look back at our past
Known we wouldn’t last
I cannot forgive myself
For the pain I caused you

To say sorry is asking for forgiveness
To say goodbye is forever
I do not want you to forgive me
I would only bring you more pain
Now I say sorry and goodbye
