You Don't Own Me Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

You Don't Own Me

you don't own me
I'm not your puppet, you don't pull no strings
you don't own me
you will feel the ruckus that I'll soon bring

i'll do what I want to do
i'll say what I want to say
and if I'm not liking you
don't get mad cause you ain't got your way

you don't know me
don't think I'll ever change my ways
you don't know me
if you think one second that I'll stay

I'm clear about what I want
I'm free to live without confines
I know this isn't what you've sought
but you haven't captured my heart
