'You Love Me Not' Poem by Surge Shatilo

'You Love Me Not'

Rating: 4.5

I love you tender now and again.
You love me not, and yet, you’re just as tender.
Why can’t we tear our broken lives apart?
Why can’t we live and give and love and wonder?

I sent them in the sky – they fell apart,
I put them on the road – they wouldn’t start,
I laid them in your eyes – they flew away.
My love, my hopes and dreams, our night and day.

I saw it in your eyes – they didn’t shine.
I smelt it in your hair - Oh Love Divine!
I touched you deep - you cried and slipped away.
Then came the night and hurt and darker day.

Like here and now, never and again,
Like always, I am here and now.
Whatever comes, it goes just the same.
Why wait? Why cry? Why anything? Don’t know.

If nothing’s always, you and I are never,
If nothing’s real, but chains for ever more.
If love brings life to knees and burning tears,
I can’t, I won’t, I dare not take no more.

I don’t, I didn’t but I will, I know.
I’m sure you are, you were and always been.
Your hands, they smell of rum and mistletoe.
Your lips, they are the best I’ve ever seen.

It comes, it stays, it grows, it dawns and blossoms.
What meets the eye – I never want to see.
Where did I lose my Flower, Daisy Awesome?
I know you love me not - I’m begging: Let me be!

A sad tale of unrequited love, told with emotion. Thanks for sharing, Surge. Peace

Distress in bliss of love well depicted in the poem. A lovely piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned with good rhyme scheme. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
