You Might Ask Poem by Mark Heathcote

You Might Ask

You might ask for food.
I might ask, ask only for you
You might ask for shelter
And yet, I still search; ask for you.
You might ask for help
You might ask for forgiveness
And all I ask for is still you
What else am I to do?

You might ask for alms;
I just-still-ask - for you in my arms.
What else am I to do?
What else am I to do?
Without - without you, what am I to do?
I search my soul.
I search my heart and ask you
What else am I to do?
I can't live without you.

You are the carpenters' glue.
There's no need for a seed or tree without you.
There's no need for a valley or a mountain without you.
There's no need for the desert or the sea without you.
Can't you see without you, there can't be any me too?
