You Should Not Despair Poem by Francis Duggan

You Should Not Despair

You've lost your own true love yet you should not despair
Life on Earth will still go on and you should hang in there
Yes you should hang in there though she is no longer at your side
Death to us all comes soon enough since it cannot be denied.

That you should pine for her not what she'd wish for you
She would want you to enjoy life since without her you must do
She would want you to remember her with laughter and not tears
Of your very happy memories of your great together years.

You miss her more than words can say the one great love of your life
In memories the beauty still remains with you of your loyal and loving wife
Memories of the love you knew give rise to heartache and grief
But for sorrow and for tears one might say life too brief.

For loving her so true the price in tears you pay
Still life it will go on though we must die one day
She would not want you to grieve each time you think of her
To remember her and smile is what she would prefer.
