You Will Have To Leave It Behind Poem by Richard Jarboe

You Will Have To Leave It Behind

The sun goes up and the sun goes down,
Most of our culture is kind,
The wind blows west to east,
But you're going to have to leave it behind.

There's something about mountains,
Something about music,
And something about standing in line,
But whatever it is, or whatever it means,
Be ready to leave it behind.

There's something about emptiness,
Something about going blind,
But with just a touch of nothingness,
It's a rule: you must leave it behind.

Say goodbye to the family,
Meet again on the other side,
But the tears and the laughter,
With all of the the history,
You will have to leave it behind.

Don't be too nostalgic,
You'll lose your power to glide,
You're going to need a little courage,
When it's time to leave everything behind.
