You Win Some You Lose Some Poem by Francis Duggan

You Win Some You Lose Some

She looked at me in a strange way as by me she walked by
Methought maybe i have an unbuttoned fly
But when i glanced down at my pants all did seem okay
Some people are strange in a strange sort of way.

Perhaps i reminded her of one she did know
Of one who had caused her a great deal of woe
Of one she had known and had grown to despise
She did look at me with disapproving eyes.

An attractive one in her early forties towards me she did act rude
Her look was unfriendly the type of look that exclude
You of making the effort for to say hello
A stranger that i could never wish to know.

I am not a young man and i look a bit rough
And that i should look at her perhaps not good enough
I did feel diminished by her withering stare
And of a poor karmic relationship i felt aware.

Brown haired and attractive in her early forties though not quite a rose
To me far from friendly that's life i suppose
But the song of the magpie it brightened my day
You win some you lose some as some often say.
