Young Mother - Poem by Joe Hughes

Young mother, fag in hand,
Bags of shopping, Coke in can.
Young mother, not yet grown,
Ever on your mobile phone.

Children shouting, one is crying,
Can't you see emotion dying?
You're so busy with yourself,
Did I hear you use an 'F'?

Young mother, got no spouse,
Just a partner, rented house.
Got no car, got no wealth,
Overweight - gambling health?

Children growing all the time,
In a life unsublime.
Young mother stop and look,
Can I read you like a book?

i DID/DO enjoy this work. in the u.s.a. (remember us?) , and my age being 64, FAG brings to mind a gay man, but i believe i have heard FAG used for a cigarette. and Coke....well, with a capital C (and in a can, not a plastic bag) you must mean Coca-Cola, not cocaine. i know a lot of F words. i wrote a poem about the famous/infamous F word, and it has been online for a while. i'm glad people have not kicked it offline...yet. after all it is JUST a word! ! well............Happy New Year.....i shall send you a poem which i believe starts U.K. (Report)Reply

A friend of mine followed this path, It doesn't take much to fall into this trap yet, It's a shame to see so many take this road. Well put on a sad truth. (Report)Reply

Your paint your portrait of poverty and hopelessness with great skill. Your first stanza is especially compelling. love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ (Report)Reply
