Your Question Poem by Maria Schmitt

Your Question

Rating: 2.7

Is it bad that I wanted
to say yes
to your indecent proposal
there in the classroom in front of your friend?
I wanted to so badly
to say yes,
I do want that,
but I know better and
also,
you don’t know about those feelings
I’m hiding.
I suppose I deserved it,
having to refute
your joke (right?)
while your friend laughed.
I did sort of lead you there,
make you say it,
but really I didn’t think you would.
That’s what surprised me.
And excited me.
Is it bad that I wanted
to say yes?
Why did you say it?
Is it because you’re you and
that’s how you do
or was it an actual question
hidden beneath sarcasm and
humor?
Either way it was weird
and I don’t know how
to respond
besides to wonder if you meant it
or not.
So why did you ask?
I’d of said yes…

…if I had the guts.
