Your` Real Best Mate Poem by George Bernard Hough

Your` Real Best Mate

Aquaintances may come and go
like summer rain and winter snow.
Friends are there in time of need
on this, i know, we`re all agreed.
But one who stands `bove all the rest
as travelling on your lifelong quest,
beside you on your` wedding day,
your` ally during work and play.
One who believes when others doubt,
on your` behalf he`ll raise a shout.
Who`s always shared your` ups and downs,
at times with smiles, at times with frowns.
Though life may take him far away,
so far, his night, becomes your` day!
In your` minds eye you still will see
memories of what used to be.
When life becomes a creaking gate
he`ll still be there, your` real best mate
