Youth Vs. Senior Poem by Myrna Migala

Youth Vs. Senior

The youth will never engage
That our souls will never get old
Upon arriving at old age

Inside — Seniors feel caged
The aged will uphold
The youth will never engage

We old citizens feel as if onstage
Not at all controlled
Upon arriving at old age

We imagine; deem not changed
We can dance and feel quite bold
The youth will never engage

Our thinking never disengaged
We are as if thirty-three years yet untold
Upon arriving at old age

The truth of the soul will never assuage
To one who hasn't reached what fate molds
The youth will never engage
Upon arriving at old age

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I have serious reservations about the idea put forth in the poem. Yes, I agree that the concept of ‘Generation Gap" is relevant. But that is not everything. The old and the young are two sides of the same coin. I don't think generations are water tight compartments

I appreciate your insight but I was trying to express how, (I will be 82 in a few days) when I was young I felt alive and active, emotional, and still feel the same inside today, but my body does not agree it aged, my soul did not age. Thank you again for reading my poetry!
