Youu'Ll Be Happy - Poem by Rachel Brewer
Where will we go when the darkness comes?
Where will we go when we can no longer see the world?
How long will we be able to survive, going through this world blind?
Once everything and everyone has died.
The world will lay quietly to rest in the darkness.
We run through our lives, not thinking about the things we can see,
Not looking at everything and not remembering everything,
That we should remember.
Because it’s the small details that make life alive, that make life worth living.
The brightest red of the smallest rose,
The deepest blue of the loneliest ocean,
The richest yellow of the sun at its highest.
Taking in all of these details is the only way to realise what world we actually live in.
How vast and magical the world really is.
We need to look deep into the earth’s core and realise that what we’re a part of is huge.
We are a creation of life, and we need to realise what that means.
We have a responsibility to this planet and to ourselves, to make life magnetic and wondrous.
What is the point of it if it isn’t loved, and used properly?
Because in the end, after everything, when the preordained end of the earth comes to be,
We have to be able to say we did it right.
That we used our tiny chance of living to do it justice.
Hell, to be proud of it and to want to remember it for the rest of time.
Lets face it though, when we’re gone, our lives will be remembered for maybe, one hundred years.
By our family and people we knew.
After that, all that will be left are random artefacts, like the scribbling in a notebook, and the slow decaying of a tomb stone.
And the earth will have forgotten about us completely.
So make the most of every moment, even if you’re just sitting at work.
Work to the best of your ability at all times,
Do the greatest things and imagine how good you will feel in the end.
Do things at every opportunity, put nothing on hold and make it last.
I hate that saying; ‘time flies when you’re having fun.’
Because it’s true.
And I really wish it wasn’t.
Why do the things we enjoy most in life have to end so quickly?
Why does the time pass us so fleetingly?
If only we could stop time.
And photograph every second of everything we do, and keep every memory safe.
But we know that will never be.
We will never physically be able to stop time, its motion continuous and unstoppable,
But in the end it will run out.
So keep memories safe in your heart, if you find you don’t have a camera!
Keep friends and family close and never let a second of your time be wasted.
If you know these things,
And you do these things,
When the darkness comes,
You will be happy.
