Although it is a time of bloom and blossom
When wild birds build their nests and breed and sing
It also is a time of heavy pollen
And not everybody looks forward to the Spring.

The spring in gown of green came at midnight
And stole along the parkland in moonlight
And people of suburbia fast asleep
When Spring from tree to garden tree did creep.

In the clear blue sky woolly looking clouds of gray
The sun it is shining on a lovely Spring day
A high of a warm enough 28 degrees
With only the faintest sign of a slight breeze.

Good memories of what was i only retain
In fancy i walk in the old fields again
When the mild breeze of Spring from the mountain is blowing
And among the rank rushes the male pheasant is crowing
...

Though bare are the hedgerows and few songbirds sing
In far Northern Lands 'tis the first day of Spring
A blanket of fog envelopes the old hill
And the flood is bank high in the river and rill.

The oak tree forlorn and leafless and the day is cold and gray
But through the earth young buds are peeping Spring cannot be far away
And the spotted dove is cooing making known his territory
And any time of year in Nature wondrous things to hear and see.

'Tis Spring in the northern woodlands the chaffinch sings at dawn of day
And the hawthorns are heavily laden in their beautiful white flowers of May
And the scenery it is breath-taking when viewed from the higher ground
The green fields and the lush green valleys for acres and for miles around,

It is Spring now in the Northlands the Northlands far away

And the hooded crow is cawing in his cloak of black and gray
And the white breasted dipper singing in the river all the day.

The sun shines in the sky of blue and gray
It is a cool and rather breezy day
The magpie lark in the Townpark does sing
Pee wee pee wee on the first day of Spring.

The bottlebrushes laden with crimson flowers
And there is warmth in the October breeze
And with her Spring has brought her blooms and greenery
And birds are singing on the sunlit trees.

Accurate forecasters of weather weatherwise they are seldom wrong
It will rain in the high woodlands when you hear the currawong
When you hear the dark birds calling rain is in the mountain breeze
And the high branches wave and the leaves are stirring on the great mountain ash trees.

How marvellous to live for to see one more Spring
To feel the sun's warmth and to hear the birds sing
The sweet scents of Nature of pollen and hay
That wafts in the breeze of a beautiful day.

The weather changeable from early to mid Spring
But so nice to hear the nesting songbirds sing
In the town park in the gray dawn of the day
Song in their breeding season to defend territory a huge part seems to play

In Port Fairy by the ocean nesting birds chirp and sing
On a sunny day in early September in the early Spring
In a lovely old place on a beautiful day
The Spring is in town for her annual three months stay

Pink blossoms blooming on the fruit trees at the start of a nice sunny day
From this wooded place on the high ground Utopia can't be far away
On a young mountain ash near to where I am standing the familiar gray butcherbird sing
I love it for it's Natural beauty Kallista in the early Spring.

On the grassy bank of the old stream buttercups are blooming
bright
And on the ditch by the Bohreen snowdrops in their petals of white
And primroses in their light yellows and bluebells so lovely and blue

My many walks on memory lane i enjoy
'Twill soon be Spring again in old Lisnaboy
And though March 1 is the first of the calendar Spring
March can be wet and cold and few songbirds do sing.

And a thick fog through the woodland, I can hardly see the trees

It's a day for woolly jumper though not cold enough to freeze.

Old kookaburra utter his laugh like call
And happy magpie warbling merrily
His beautiful and distinct melody.

My sixty fourth Spring of life it has come and has gone
And i'm happy quite happy to be living on
When so many friends and acquaintances have passed away
I feel grateful to wake to see every new day

Young surfers ride the white waves of Port Fairy on a sunny though cool and windy day in late Spring
One sees them surfing in all sorts of weather the gift of youth it is a marvelous thing
Above the ocean din i hear a blackbird fluting his notes on foreshore tree nearby
At times the sun from view does become obscured as rain clouds gather in the evening sky

As she always does on September's first day

The robin singing on leafy birch bough
By the Cails waters close to the Finnow
Green Spring is in the Northlands far away
And wildflowers bloom in the old fields today

The yellow primroses are blooming on the bohreen ditch today
And the nesting birds are singing in the morning cool and gray
And the sparrows on barn rafters build their straggly nests of hay
And the swallows have returned from warm climates far away

Late Spring far away by the road to Macroom
The hawthorns cloaked in their white blossoms in bloom
And in the leafy groves the nesting songbirds whistle and sing
On a beautiful day in the Duhallow and Muskerry Spring

It is early Spring in Ireland but the sky looking gray
It has rained overnight and will rain more today
And the cattle in farmyard sheds bellowing for silage or hay
Many days from the calendar Spring to the true Spring of May

Towards the end of the Spring with the Summer quite near
It is such a beautiful time of the year
Though the old hill just west of the quiet country town
That was green a few weeks ago now looking brown

The first of September and the calendar Spring
In the gray of the dawning the blackbird does sing
And the bird who does sing every day of the year
The warbling song of the magpie so pleasant to hear

The weather is wet as the old man remember
But two days from now on the first of September
The Goddess of Spring without any commotion
Will arrive in the Land by the Southern Ocean

Late August the Spring less than two weeks away
Weatherwise so far it has been a changeable day
This morning 'twas raining but now there's sunshine
The rest of the day may be pleasant and fine

I hope I will breathe life to see in next Spring
To hear Nature's singing birds whistle and sing
On fence and on powerline and on bush and tree
With flowers in abundance everywhere to see

The nestlings of Spring just gone learning to sing
They will be fine songsters by the birth of next Spring
The young magpies warblings quite good for their age
Though yet quite a way from the perfection stage.

And only the slightest of a coastal breeze

When the yellow flowers bloom on the green wattle tree
And the turnstone from the Arctic on the far southern beaches you see
And the golden billed blackbirds in the parkland do sing
In the southern Country you know it is Spring

It was an old country that i used to know
In fancy on a beech tree i hear a gray crow
Cawing in the gloam where the Blackwater flow
In the flat green fields where the rushes in clusters do grow
...

Above the old brown bogland a small speck in the sky
And upwards ever upwards he carols as he fly
And piping ever piping till in clouds he disappear
The little brown skylark keeps carolling though his song I barely hear.

A crescent moon through the starry sky is creeping
And there is scarce the slightest hint of breeze
And the birds of day in their nests are sleeping
On the branches of the bushes and the trees.

In Spring perhaps I never more will hear the songbirds at dawn
Sing on the green hedgerows of old Tooreenbawn
And see the hawthorns in their white blooms of May
I've not seen the old Land for many a day.

The skylark o'er the upland meadow sing
As up to greet the morning sun he wing
And singing ever singing as he fly
Till cloaked by clouds and lost to human eye.

December and the trees are bare
And breath of Winter in the air
And holy, holy Christmas Day
One day less than a week away.

The second dawn of Spring is breaking gray
And on the wattle trees across the way
The whistling grey shrike thrushes are in song
At this time of year you hear them all day long.

Birds pipe their territorial melodies
On branches of the naked trees
And Winter's o'er and Summer's near
And pleasant youthful Spring is here.

In the darkness of the morning just before the dawn of day
I hear the magpies singing on the gums across the way
From mid July and onwards they build their nests and sing
And when the magpies are stick gathering you know 'twill soon be Spring.

Like small motor bike purring it's way along
Across the sky the nightjar's churring song
The bird known as 'the swallow of the night'
With mouth agape enjoying his flying insect diet.

To some this vale may seem remote
But had I the genius of a poet
I'd write of what I hear and see
And all this beauty that captivates me.

The skylarks carolling o'er their breeding borders in sunlit sky above the Gippsland hills
And wildflowers in their billions fresh and blooming by hedgerows and by creeks and mountain rills
And magpie from high branch of eucalyptus fly down and attack every passer by
With nest to defend he feels quite aggressive for his young in nest he is prepared to die.

Frost and sleety rain and snow
And cold the wintery winds do blow
Leafless trees and hedgerows bare
And signs of Winter everywhere.

The golden whistler whistles on the gray gum tree
And lyrebird in good mood for mimicry
And magpie piping in the morning gray
And currawong tell rain not far away.
