It hurts me so to see you come
For I know there's this troublesome
State of mind that will finally
Take you away from me

I miss you most when you are near
Since you will quickly disappear
As we are bound just notionally
With you all joy will flee

Who cares if your fond words I trust
Anyhow march away you must
And I will take another road
There's nothing else to do

A drifter's love's a vivid threat
Each promise tastes after regret
From glow of my eyes you could bode
That I'm a drifter too

To season my fireside with personal talk.--
Of friends, who live within an easy walk,
Or neighbours, daily, weekly, in my sight:
