"Lost to the darkness..."

I saw the death of innocence in a city
Cast with shadows and filled with degradation—
Permanent homes for the dregs in a society without hope—
Lost to the darkness of yesteryears,
Groping for musical notes and words of comfort—
Their stolen dreams like the blood of a slain champion that
Spattered and dried to the brickwork—
Mothers without milk, fathers without judgment,
Daughters without morality, and sons without scruples....
