The Rain In Guacimo - Poem by Jeff Gangwer

The rain
in Guacimo
fell so ferociously
that the rising
flood waters,
in great streams,
ran from
the streets
and spilled
into
the
gutters

And while
under a roof,
I watched
my mother-in-law
on her bed,
from across the room,
while she
gently stroked
the head of
my napping Wife—
her
only
daughter—
a tender scene
that
played
for decades
before I arrived
to
witness
it
