The Shoes Hit the Pavement

Movement—
Circular movement:
The shoes hit the pavement....
Then some gravel;
Then some grass;
Then the pavement again—
Soft—then hard....
The movement is consistent
And controlled
And rhythmic....

The road—
Countless paths on a single cut:
Divisions and cracks
And rollers
And suggestions of movement—
Circular movement:
The road runner works;
He runs and he works
And his path is decided:
He runs and he works and he continues....

Poem of the Day

poet Paul Laurence Dunbar

The mist has left the greening plain,
The dew-drops shine like fairy rain,
The coquette rose awakes again
Her lovely self adorning.
