There is No Christ

A man declared:

"There is no Christ, there is no god—
"No one to save us, no one to redeem us—
"No one to pull us up or out of this goddamn, f****n' hole...."

Another answered:

"If there is no Christ,
"Then you're right: there is no god—
"No one to save us, no one to redeem us—

"And no one to pull us out of the hole—

"But now we're hinging on ‘if'—
"And for me, the hinge swings
"To the affirmative:

"And so I testify,

"There is a Christ, there is a God;
"One to save, One to redeem;
"One to pull us up and out of this hole....

"There are no atheists at the meth house, the church house, or at the Super Bowl...."

In the end,
They flipped a coin—
But settled nothing....

poet Henry David Thoreau

Whate'er we leave to God, God does,
And blesses us;
The work we choose should be our own,
God leaves alone.
