Wonder what could have been;

Wind, rain, and thunder…
Lightning… brightening the sky
Before summer's day.
One dream wakes to another…

We're all strangers as we travel this world.
And sometimes we meet
In different times, ways, and places.

We begin as a child from position curled,
For to await the responses of this world;
To trust in powers not of our control;
And to hope for outcomes good for our soul.

My to-go pizza is cooling down in the box on the bar,
But the jazz pianist is calming and convincing,
And the music is sounding better.

Holding Mom's hand, as I say goodnight
In a now too familiar hospital setting,
I see behind the thin translucent skin,
The hands that carried and cleaned and cared;

Often, two local shops are where I run into him; already there,
No matter the time or day; we don't speak, or acknowledge that
There may be a pseudo-kindred-ness… not like a doppelganger…
Just a part of yourself, from the past usually, in someone else.
