Carole Davis Poems

Rain falling from the darkened sky
Sadness when I ponder why
The hospital was so cold and blue,
My little one how I tried to save you.

I can see my reflection in a dark pool
Caressing my soul so much the fool
I loose my image in the shades of the water
Concealing my thoughts until later
...

The trek up the mountain was steep,
The wind blew fiercely against my face.
I had to keep looking up at the peak
Lost in a trance my goal to embrace.
...

The warmth of the sun first caresses my face.
Quietly and without reserve I can feel its embrace.
I can hear the birds greeting each other in the trees
I can sense subtle yet intense buzzing of the bees.

Misery can become an addiction an easy way out.
Swimming in self pity and the need to pout.
Vicious gossip and the need to place others down
In horrid self inflicted pain it is easy to drown.

The ocean breeze brushed my hair.
I walk along the beach at dawn
Not a worry not a care.
I am no longer a pawn.

I sit quietly, dangling on the edge of a slick rock cliff
Listening only to the sounds of stillness and infrequent calls of birds
A collard lizard watches me holding himself stiff
As curious as I am but without a choice of words

The darkness in the room enveloped me
So many emotions now I do see
Betrayal of trust, I can not understand your selfishness
I remember drifting in and out of consciousness
...

I danced beneath a starry sky
Before a man who made me sigh
Embraced like I had never know before
Finished my dance, then he wanted more

My Little One

Rain falling from the darkened sky
Sadness when I ponder why
The hospital was so cold and blue,
My little one how I tried to save you.

I remember the frantic calls of the nurses,
The doctors screaming orders and verses,
Everyone working to pull me through
Oh little one how I tried to save you.

I remember your heart beating so weak,
The doctors prognosis came back so bleak
Your life was so precious and true,
Oh little one how I tried to save you.

In the hospital alone I thought about why
I guess your little soul was meant to fly,
If your father had cared would you have pulled through
Oh little one how I tried to save you.

Watching the rain healing from that day,
When I wonder if there had been a different way
I know that there was no more I could do,
My little one I did try to save you.
