Kong Yin Poems

1.

Stars glimmering in a stream,
moon flickering on a far mountain,
bamboo leaves rustling,
dogs barking,
...

In the wilderness,
clouds scattering and dispersing.
No one beside me
but a little flower.
...

I wanted to be a poet
when I was young
so my father handed me a blue hat,
telling me to go find a house just for myself.
...

Where did the crows go?
Usually at least ten of them
perch on the withered branches,
and yet now none.
...

In this ancient village
stood a windmill
and a merry wood
where children amused themselves.
...

Solitude, you're in a trance again,
sitting under the lamp, furrowing your brow,
like a young lady, graceful and enigmatic.
Who are you waiting for?
...

Amid my disconsolation
a spirit strides silently over,
a half smile of mercy on his lips,
a glare of lust in his eyes.
...

Chandelier lit,
house heated,
toasting my guests.
...

Dinner served
table long set
all your favorites -
fried cabbage, potato strings, mapo tofu, sweet and sour fish
...

Morning, I went to visit the robin in my garage
With an air of dignity
she sits on her eggs
her bashful eyes peering at me.
...

The beautiful bird is gone
forever.
When it took wing,
we saw its shadow,
...

12.

A rabbit eating grass.
A fox eating rabbit.
A wolf eating fox.
...

The vast desert breeze
bore the tinkle of a camel’s bell,
and then I wondered where it went.
...

In the autumn sunset
I pass a sublime orchard.
From the low-built walls
I see branches bent
...

A little spider web
hangs on a large hemlock,
ice crystals
strung like a square house.
...

On an autumn night in this foreign country
the ocean tide rises
lamps misty as moonlight.
Birds return to the nest
...

In the depths of night
guitar playing
pierces the night sky
like a lonely wild goose
...

You are ageless as the vast sky
unfathomable as a bottomless well
steadfast as impermanence
seamless as a goddess’ dress.
...

Others call me a great magician
but I have never acknowledged that title.

Wearing a black tuxedo
...

I want to change my way of living.
I want to turn off
my computer, television, telephone.
I'll dig out the bag of seeds hidden in a corner of my house,
...

The Best Poem Of Kong Yin

Maybe

Stars glimmering in a stream,
moon flickering on a far mountain,
bamboo leaves rustling,
dogs barking,
withered vines reaching out,
endlessly, a road stretching.

On a blue path of flagstone,
petals chasing a puff of breeze,
she all in grey, holding her alms,
knocks on doors, begging in shadows.

That person might be me.
There I may have been.
